Happy December 19th, lovely Reader!
Welcome to this edition of Molly O’s Creativity Avalanche. I’m excited to share something special this month, in the final days of 2023: a mixture of poetry + art + empowering lives of splendor.
I love this organization, Rooted Oaks International.
And, I’ll be sharing a bit more this month to offer an opportunity of connection through art, poetry, and this organization.
*******
The invitation is this: I’ll share a piece of artwork each time I share a message with you here, and especially as we finish 2023…for each piece of art that you purchase, a portion of the sale will go toward promoting literacy, education, vocational training, for children and adults in Rwanda.
*******
“Rooted Oaks International is partnering with families living in poverty, in Rwanda, to empower them to live the lives of splendor they were made for.
“Caregivers carry a heavy burden. On their shoulders is the provision of the entire family. That weight is even heavier when facing the challenges of poverty.
Many of our caregivers lack job skills that could allow them to obtain jobs to provide for their families. We desire to train them to not only get well-paying jobs, but hopefully even start their own businesses.”

Experiencing Beauty is restorative. That’s one reason I write poetry and make art.

“December” by Molly Ovenden
Original. Acrylic on Card. Unframed. Part of the "Scrapings" Collection.
|| $100USD + tax & shipping
Approximate Dimensions:
7.5 inches x 9.5 inches
3 inches x 3 inches (each square "scraping")
“December” is an original acrylic painting.
Something I love about this painting is…
When I look at this painting, I see the cold, short days and the cold, long nights of December in northern Minnesota. I also see the streaks of aurora borealis lights and the shimmery snow that reflects rainbow lights in the low winter sun.
The meaning behind the title is…
The subtlety of the rainbow edges on the left and the way the negative space look like winter clouds.

FAQs:
How do I purchase your artwork?
Please REPLY to this painting if you would like to purchase it. Those who respond get first dibs to purchase this piece (in the order in which they message me).
How much does this painting cost?
Each painting is an original and varies in price. Listed price is in USD ($). If the price is a concern, we can work out a payment plan. When you email me that you'd like to purchase it and include your shipping address so I can send you an invoice for the price of the painting + sales tax and shipping costs.
Do you ship outside of the United States of America?
Short answer:
No, not at this time.
Long answer:
It's possible, but often is very expensive, so I tend not to do this. If you're outside of the U.S.A. and you're in love with a painting or print you see of mine, please still message me and we can discuss what might be possible. I am not making any promises that I will send outside of the U.S.A.
What if I can't afford one of your original pieces?
I am open to working with you to arrange a monthly payment plan that works for both of us. I believe that you can own original artwork and that I can sell my art for a fair price.
Do you have prints available?
I want to create affordable original art, so originals are my priority in this season of my art career. However, I have a few prints available to be purchased
When will I receive my painting?
I endeavor to have your painting shipped out within 10 business days from when your payment is processed. If you have a special date that you would like to receive your painting in time for, please let me know at the time of purchase. I can arrange for expedited delivery.
I don't love any of the pieces I've seen yet. Do you have anything else?
I want my collectors (that's you!) to LOVE my work. I'm always creating in my studio. We could set up an in-studio tour (in-person or virtually) where I can show you what pieces I have available. If you still haven't found something, we can do a commissioned piece, which would be custom and made for you.
Do you do custom made paintings (commissions)?
Yes! I have a $50 non-refundable deposit due after our first meeting to discuss your custom piece; this must be paid before I start working on your custom piece.
I currently only have THREE spots available for custom pieces/commissions this season.
I usually only take custom orders for original “Scrapings.” However, I'm always trying new things, so I'd love to talk with you about what you're thinking of for your custom piece. Please email me if you are interested.
Do you do pet portraits?
No. If this is something you're keen on, I can recommend a couple artists to you who might be able to help you with this.
Why does the packing material look odd?
Whenever possible, I use recycled packaging materials. This may mean that it's not the prettiest, but it does mean that we have a less waste in our landfills. This does not mean that your painting is less protected. My paintings are like my children: I'll bundle them up like Randy in A Christmas Story movie. They won't be able to put their arms down, either. 🥰
What is your return policy?
*I have a no returns policy on custom painted commission pieces. I want you to love the artwork you purchase, so we will have multiple meetings in person or virtually for you to ensure that you love the piece you're purchasing.
*On other original pieces, I offer an exchange option, if you really don't love your painting (excludes custom pieces).
*In the unlikely unfortunate event that your painting is damaged during shipping, I will handle these claims on a case-by-case basis. I package and ship each piece with conscientious care to make sure it gets to you in good condition.
